5 Awesome Lines From Ab-Soul’s ‘Do What Thou Wilt’

When fans thought J. Cole‘s 4 Your Eyez Only would be the single most highly anticipated album of December 9, 2016, they were sadly mistaken. TDE’s Ab-Soul also released a brand new album titled, Do What Thou Wilt and some are arguing that it had more bars than Cole’s piece.

Do What Thou Wilt

We decided to display 5 Awesome Lines From Ab-Soul’s Do What Thou Wilt to see how they stack up.

Ab-Soul may be one of the most underrated artists and member of the Black Hippy crew that features Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q and Jay Rock. However, he is not someone to underestimate.

Hip-hop giants like Jay Z have raved about Soul in the past and with his most recent offering, he may be receiving the praise of plenty more.

Soul addressed almost every single issue you could imagine on his album and brought the competition of hip-hop in as he addressed and declared war on all of the rappers out right now.

Both Cole and Soul have the disdain for the new generation of “lil” rappers in common and it’s clear to see they had a similar agenda, however, Soul’s album may have simply taken it to a level that Cole didn’t reach with 4 Your Eyez Only.

5 Awesome Lines From Ab-Soul’s Do What Thou Wilt

5. “Raw (Backwards)”

“I was like a swami of Jay Electronica until he figured
Dizzle wouldn’t admit that he would body him for a milli
I told Kenny keep quiet, I’ma get him
We don’t need dirt on your hands gettin’ the key to the city
You feel me? Hurts when your OG
Who is supposed to be a G-O-D
Is standin’ next to King Kunta feelin’ like Toby”Ab-Soul Via Genius

Ab-Soul addresses an apparent beef that the OG Jay Electronica had with his Black Hippy brother Kendrick Lamar, however, it does come off as a pretty respectful admonishment.

4. “Huey Knew”

“They speak highly of me when I raise my voice
I gotta shoot a f**kin’ free throw to make my point”Ab-Soul Via Genius

There isn’t much substance to this verse, however, it’s one of the many displays of how great Soul’s wordplay is on tracks.

3. “D.R.U.G.S.”

“They say the apple don’t fall far from the tree
Apple a day, it keep the doctors away
I wonder if my father got more faded than me
But I can’t ask him, ‘cause the doctors couldn’t save him, baby”Ab-Soul Via Genius

Ab-Soul is reflecting on whether or not he is anything like his father, however, he won’t get the chance to ask him because he is no longer with him.

2. “Portishead in the Morning”

“I’m from Nibiru, microphone check one, two, three
Master of ceremony no matter the territory, I’m cozy
Oz. of OG, my brain playin’ ring around the rosy
The fried egg in my head defies science
I’m Bill Nye, goin’ to great heights to stay the highest”Ab-Soul Via Genius

More incredible wordplay from Soul who finds creative ways to show his fans just how dope of an artist he really is.

1. “Threatening Nature”

“And we don’t speak on sexism much as we really should
The black man could vote before the woman could
You singin’ hymns in church, I’m lookin’ for the her’s
In 66 books in the Bible, they ain’t let a lady say one word”Ab-Soul Via Genius

Soul knows that women’s rights is an important issue in today’s society and is trying to encourage us to have smarter conversations about it.
